Baby Tab Blankets November 29, 2009

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadesofroses @ 3:05 am

It’s the season for friends to have babies. I made 4 girl blankets & 4 boy blankets & gave them to friends as baby gifts. I’ve been told that babies love to chew on tags so that is why the blanket is surrounded with loops of ribbons.

These were a gift for my friend who was having a little boy. They were taken from the animals on his bedding.

Coffee Painting November 29, 2009

My friend & I chose this verse to paint in a picture to remind ourselves to pray for the other one. This is in my kitchen & matches my coffee & color theme.

I made these bags for my neices. I was able to make use of some fabric I had left over from another project & then put their initials on the bags so they would know which bag was theirs.

img_2789I made this little fleece hat for my brand new nephew. I didn’t have a pattern so it ended up fitting him a little snug, but still cute.

I made this pillow for my mother-in-law out of left overs from my quilt. The colors matched her newly refinished living room.

I made a few other things but forgot to take pictures.

Mix-not Match Bedroom Curtains July 4, 2008

Ok here’s the story with these curtains. Our bedspread is cream & black so I thought instead of the standard red accent I would do a royal purple. So, I found this really great purple fabric & then searched the web for how to curtain ideas. I found this & even though it is a really fun pattern it does not fit our bedroom well. So, when we move it will not be part of the bedroom decor.

The first set of curtains took so long to make that it was awhile before I tackled the bigger window. One day I was in target and saw some curtains almost exactly like this but they didn’t have black & originally I wanted to find purple ribbon to do as the accent color but I couldn’t find any that would do anywhere. I really like these curtains a lot more. But they will not be part of our bedroom decor in our new home because I’m making a quilt for our bed and it is brown & not black. :)

Bathroom Curtains July 4, 2008

My new love for sewing began when I decided to make my own curtains for our bathroom. Since we rent our house I did not want to buy anything to match the bizarre tiles on the counter (as you may be able to tell the counter consists of little tiny leaves that are shades of salmon). I wanted to use the things I had & make the curtains to tie all the colors together, if possible. So I had a black & cream flower print shower curtain, a red rug, & salmon colored tiles. YIKES. Using fabric that I had already, here’s what I came up with. Not too bad for the first thing you’ve ever really sewed & pulled from scraps of fabric you had.

Coffee Love July 4, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadesofroses @ 12:35 am

There is but one love that Anna & I share and that is COFFEE. We like to think of ourselves as coffee connoisseurs and we love all things coffee. So, to keep with that theme in our lives I decided to buy a book on coffee, all about how to make hot coffee drinks, cold coffee drinks, & desserts that go with coffee drinks. To go with the book I made an apron out of some fantastic coffee related fabric I had found earlier. Then I thought, well to top it off I’ll use some of that fabric & sew the cute little coffee images on a towel. And here’s the final product.

Skirts June 5, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadesofroses @ 3:12 am

My sister & 2 brothers recently came to visit. My sister and I went shopping almost all day Saturday with little to no luck finding cute clothing. So, with my new found love for sewing I suggested making our own clothing. We first set out to find a dress pattern that we liked, but since I had never sewed anything from a pattern I was scared away. We chose a simple skirt pattern to get us started and the best thing was that the pattern was only 88ยข. We chose some fabric & started cutting. My sister had never sewed anything before and she did the skirt all on her own & did a fabulous job. It took us a lot longer than we had hoped but now we each have an article of clothing we can take pride in. I wasn’t quite done with my skirt in this picture. I have finished it since then but want to make some changes. I’ll post an updated photo soon.

We bought a Vogue retro dress pattern too. We’ll be attempting this eventually. So check back :)

Baby Sling June 5, 2008

Filed under: Uncategorized — shadesofroses @ 3:01 am

My friend Anna recently had a baby, May 23rd to be exact. Her name is Elena Grace and she was 9 lbs 9 oz. For one of Anna’s many baby showers I made her a sling to wear that holds little Elena. I found some fabric that had dragonflies, which is the partial theme of the baby room. The picture isn’t great, the lighting was bad and I couldn’t fix the picture well.

Elena is the most precious baby. She is a great combination of both her mommy & daddy. Here’s a much better picture of her just after her bath.

Bib & 2 Burp Cloths This is my latest project that I did for a friend of mine that is having a little boy at the end of May. I made the bib from a pattern (my first time to follow a pattern since junior high school). Then I got some burp cloths & did a little work on them to make them match the bib & had a very precious & sweet lady sew the little embroidery things on the cloths. All in all I think it turned out rather cute. :)
